On the genus of triply periodic minimal surfaces

we prove the existence of embedded minimal surfaces of arbitrary genus g ≥ 3 in any flat 3-torus. In fact we construct a sequence of such surfaces converging to a planar foliation of the 3-torus. In particular, the area of the surface can be chosen arbitrarily large.

Fluid permeabilities of triply periodic minimal surfaces.

It has recently been shown that triply periodic two-phase bicontinuous composites with interfaces that are the Schwartz primitive (P) and diamond (D) minimal surfaces are not only geometrically extremal but extremal for simultaneous transport of heat and electricity. The multifunctionality of such two-phase systems has been further established by demonstrating that they are also extremal when a...

Construction of Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces

We discuss the construction of triply period minimal surfaces. This includes concepts for constructing new examples as well as a discussion of numerical computations based on the new concept of discrete minimal surfaces. As a result we present a wealth of old and new examples and suggest directions for further generalizations.

Reflections concerning triply-periodic minimal surfaces.

In recent decades, there has been an explosion in the number and variety of embedded triply-periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) identified by mathematicians and materials scientists. Only the rare examples of low genus, however, are commonly invoked as shape templates in scientific applications. Exact analytic solutions are now known for many of the low genus examples. The more complex surfaces ar...

Embedded, Doubly Periodic Minimal Surfaces

We consider the question of existence of embedded doubly periodic minimal surfaces in R 3 with Scherk–type ends, surfaces that topologically are Scherk’s doubly periodic surface with handles added in various ways. We extend the existence results of H. Karcher and F. Wei to more cases, and we find other cases where existence does not hold.
